can't connect to other comp

Post by coolsnarf »

Hi,

I'm using a computer (windows 98, it's behind a router) and want to remote control a computer using windows XP. My problem is that i can't get in!

I forwared the ports 5500, 5800 and 5900 to the ip address of the computer. but it still isn't working.
When i try to ping the address it works when i'm in the network, but if i'm trying from the other computer it doesn't work. (trying to ping the router ip address, and also tried the computer's ip adress)

It's an Alcatel speedtouch 510

Pleeaaassee somebody help me!!

Thnx

is this XP computer on or off of your internal network?

which machine is the viewer and which is the server?

What do you mean when you say -

Silly questions if the server is XP is the xp firewall turned off? Is it behind a router with the proper ports forwarded? The viewer shouldnt need any ports to be forwarded only the server in most cases.

The router you tried to ping - is it set up to respond on icmp requests? and I have no idea how you ping a computer behind a router, or how you tested that.

Just more info please and we should be able to help.
