can "server ip address" be a domain name?

Post by fredriksk »

now on to the next step. I have managed to connect servers to my IP address. I have a dynamic IP but I wan't to use direct connection still. I have a domain name that allways points to the right IP. Can I put this domain name in the "server ip address / External detected ip address" -field when creating the server?

yes if the domain name is a FQDN that will work fine.

so... should I end the domain name with a . (dot) like the example in wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FQDN)?

i.e mydomain.com.
instead of
mydomain.com

It works w/o a dot appended.

I was thinking more like www.pchelpware.com that is a FQDN...But I am glad it is working for you..:)

That is a domain name that is routable via the internet..;)

thanks. I have (for the first time) managed to get one server connected to my viewer with a domainname instead of the IP. works like a charm.
