I also have an issue on an XP home machine that has just had SP2 loaded.
My problem is that when I attempt to connect via UltraVNC to another machine on the local network using the Java (web) interface on port 5800, all I get is the <Title> of the page being loaded and an image/applet placeholder.
I assumed that Java Applets were being blocked.
I have tried turning off the XP firewall, and also allowing ports 5800 and 5900 (not necessarily in that order) but still no go.
I even went so far as to set security levels in IE6 to low for every zone - although I know that the other machine is in the "Local Intranet" zone. I also added that machine to the "Trusted" zone, to see if it made a difference somehow. It didn't.
I have checked that the other machine DEFINATELY has Java Viewer enabled and is using the default ports - if it wasn't I wouldn't get the title of the page.
Is there something that I am missing? I figure there must be.
Any suggestions anyone?

Another XP SP2 issue
Re: Another XP SP2 issue
SP 2 makes major changes in the default settings of many different areas including IE. This has broken many IE based sites with no currently available fix.mhilditch1 wrote:I also have an issue on an XP home machine that has just had SP2 loaded.

I would try Mozilla Firefox andif that fails as well I suggest looking into the SP2 changes in depth. There are quite a few...
SOLVED!!
Thanks for the suggestion Lenisham, I might change browsers anyway, but I have solved my problem.
It was very simple really (as expected).
I had reinstalled the machine with XP Home, then applied SP2. One thing I missed was to install a java runtime environment. I had assumed (incorrectly) that IE6 had one built in.
I stumbled upon the answer when I installed some other software that requires Java to run and it warned me that I didn't have a Java runtime installed. Then the little light bulb went on in my head, and what do you know.. UltraVNC in the browser works now. Woohoo.
