Hi,
Can someone help me to configure my VNC Server?
I'd know how to do it but I'm having problem cause the particular situation.
The VNC Server runs on my HomePC as a service (Windows XP Pro).
The PC is behind a router that has the 5800, 5900, 5500 and 5901 ports forwarded, and with NAT active.
The Software Firewall (Sygate) either has been configured to let the server access internet (for WinVNC.exe).
The problem is connecting from work, where my WorkPC is behind a NAT.
I tried to install & configure "VNC Repeater" but I cannot make it work!
How should I configure it?
Which Mode (I or II) should I use?
What I need to set?
I followed the guide on the site but i keep getting "Failed to connect to server".
I can ping my HomePC but I cannot remotely connect to it
Where could the problem be?
Thank you a lot!

Re: Configuring Repeater for NAT-2-NAT
Someone could help me, please?
I don't understand anyway how ultravnc works..... either the server and the viewer MUST be accessible? (port forwarded)
I have my server behind a NAT but has the needed port forwarded.
If I try with a simple connection to connect remotely and it works; but if I try from work (where I am behind NAT and have ALL the incoming ports closed) it doesn't work ....
.... I think because either the Viewer needs to receive packets from outer side.
I thought to let the server be either the VNC Server either the VNC Repeater, to have a bridge for my Work Office's NAT.
Can you help me to configure it?
Please!!!

Re: Configuring Repeater for NAT-2-NAT
Are you sure they only closed the incoming ports ?
Most company's also close the outgoing ports and only allow outgoing traffic on specific ports.
Unless they tell you what ports are open you are blocked.
Possible someone know a tool to run on your PC and check the outgoing
ports...there must exist some.
This has nothing to do with NAT, but it look more that the company firewall
is locking most ports.

Re: Configuring Repeater for NAT-2-NAT
I think it's probable they've closed the outcoming ports
How could I resolve?
I think at least the port 80 is opened (otherwise I wouldn't surf the net, isnt' it?) ..... but .... how could I use it to make UltraVNC work?
In the end the problem is only with the firewall here at work.
At home (the server) I could open everything and there's no matter...
.... please, a last help!!

Re: Configuring Repeater for NAT-2-NAT
If they installed a proxy server, even port 80 is closed.
Can you connect to the internet without using a proxy ?

Re: Configuring Repeater for NAT-2-NAT
I think the problem is I'm behind a Proxy.
My VNCviewer limitations are:
- I have all incoming ports closed
- I have ONLY the port 80 opened as outcoming port
- I'm behind a NAT
My VNCserver limitations are:
- I'm behind a NAT (but can forward ports and use a repeater if it is needed)
I think I can connect from Work only using some system of tunneling (making all the packets go through the port 80) .... I thought Hamachi was able to help me, but it couldn't because it need at least a non-standard outcoming port opened (i hoped it could work via the 80 port ).
Have you idea of how can do this?
Have anyone of you ever been able to make UltraVNC work in a Corporate/Company/University/School field?
Is UltraVNC a P2P connection or it is 'single-way'?
Do I necessarily need to send and receive packets (as Viewer) or it could work in a situation like mine?
And, finally, do you think that using the Web Interface to Remote Control my PC will work?
Is it dependent on the port of the client/viewer?
I tried to run it but if I connect to http://myIP:5800 it load me an applet but then nothing happen or get visible
Is it the same problem?
Thank you for help!

Re: Configuring Repeater for NAT-2-NAT
This thread is a bit old, but I should mention that not too long ago, Hamachi added support for using an HTTP proxy server. Which means that it doesn't require any open outgoing ports, simply an HTTP proxy server.pictor wrote:I think the problem is I'm behind a Proxy.

The limitation is that obviously you need to use Hamachi's relay server, which limits free clients to 16KB/s and introduces more latency. It may not be that well suited to VNC. Still, it'll *work* at least.
You can always pay for the Premium license and remove the 16KB/s cap, but that doesn't remove the added latency of taking a hop through their relay server.
