Blank screen after remote wakeup from Stand By mode

Post by rotj »

Server: Dell Dimension 8100, Windows XP Pro SP2

When this machine is activated from standby using Wake On Lan, the screen stays blank. VNC Viewer sends mouse movements and keystrokes properly. However, the viewer only shows a black screen, as display information is not being sent. The display only turns on and transmits if I touch the keyboard or move the mouse on the actual machine.

This problem doesn't exist on my AMD machine. The monitor turns back on after coming out of standby. Is there some BIOS setting that can fix this on the Dell?

You could try calling dell about that. I'm sure they would know if theres some bios issue.. but I wouldn't have guessed it would be bios related. You might as well just go poking around. Just dont save it if you dont feel you know enough about whats what. Something may stand out. On the other hand, you might have a nice manual that lists all the junk in the bios; might as well check in there first.

Is your amd machine running XP? how about SP2? It also might just be strangeness of the different motherboards, and cant be fixed. ... well thats enough jabbering from me. ;)

Hello,
I have the same prob. Both are win xp SP1. New boards (Siemens D1761-A22) with Intel 2,8 GHz, HT, 512 MB, 100Mbit Lan.

After wake on lan I see only a black screen but the pc is working also file transfer.

Cant find any bios settings related to this issue.

Please help.

Thanks
