NAT-to-NAT: just can't make it work

Post by mstevens »

I'm going nuts trying to get nat to nat working. I've read all the FAQ's here and everything else I can find on the subject. It all makes sense, but just doesn't work for me.

I've got a LAN behind a LinkSys router. I have no trouble accessing any of my computers from within the LAN via VNC either using local names/addresses or my internet ip address or domain name registered with dnydns.org (at least I can access one computer that way - no matter how I have port forwarding set up, I can only access that one computer). I seem to be able to access my computer via VNC from my parents' dialup computer. Work uses websense and does a great job of blocking access to my home computer. However, logmein.com works fine so I know it is possible to access my computer from the internet.

In trying to test nat to nat here at home, I've never been able to get it to work. The server and client applets can't ever find each other whether they're running on the same machine or different ones. I'm not able to figure out if it's my router, port forwarding, or what.

Any hints or help would be greatly appreciated.

What ports need to be forwarded for nat to nat? UVNC is working just fine (for one computer on my LAN). I can access it from my cellphone or certain other computers such as my parents' dialup. Ports are forwarded properly for UVNC. My problem is just nat to nat.

Well, according to redge in another thread:

no need to open any port, this is the main advantage.

So, what else could be my problem here?

Eh? Does this mean that nat2nat isn't working at all right now, or that I need to be doing something different?

I too want to use nat2nat. Is there any resolution to this?
EG Does it work? If it does work then is there any decent doc about setup/config etc.? If it doesn't work then when might it work?
