Need help setting up a VNC server on ~200 hosts

Post by easypwn »

Hi,

I'm going to install a VNC server on about ~200 hosts, all these hosts will run either Windows 2003 Server or Windows XP.

For this I planned on using the UltraVNC SC. So that I only need to click the VNC Server .exe once on the remote hosts (which I plan to execute it on servers all at once), and install/run it as a service.

Until now I've found and downloaded 'UltraVnc-101-Setup' on my own computer and installed it. I noticed that it followed a server bundled with this package named 'winvnc.exe'.

Could I just upload and execute that server once on the hosts I wish to control? Is this the UltraVNC SC application? If not, can anyonoe give me the appropriate URL for the UltraVNC SC server?

I am going to control all the hosts from one computer. This computer often changes its IP. But I have the NO-IP duc running on my computer so it resolves to a constant hostname. Would it be possible to specify a hostname instead of an IP? If not thats not a big problem and I will find a viewer computer which have an IP that doesn't changes.

Also, if I got the correct server that only requires a click, could anyone please give me a brief example on how I would start the example server on the remote hosts (parameters?)?
And yea, I have seen the installation/help pages, although I'd like an example.

What I need is it to be able to only click the server executable once on the remote servers, and the server should be installed and ready for remote control, so that I can control their desktops instantly, by specifying their IP-addresses. I'd like to install and run it as a service, and do the execution fully silenced. Hope anyone can provide me with a basic example on how to do this.

Thanks in advance for all replies!

Best Regards,
~easypwn

For your 200 hosts are they in the same LAN??

Single Click does not install as a service..

I think you may want to use Ultra VNC 1.01 itself.

Correct the server part of ultra vnc is called winvnc.exe the vncviewer.exe is the viewer application...:)

not really Single Click and That Standard Ultra VNC are to different programs

Hosts names may not work. I have had the best luck by using statics IP instead of computer names

Here is a online SC Test drive.

I am sure that there are examples under the SC forum..;)

There are serveral ways to install. One is to create a MSI file that you can create and install via GPO or script

Nope, these are even different locations around the world. Most reside in the US, although some of them are in China.

Okay, but does Ultra VNC 1.01 allow a single click installation and they're ready to go?

If not I can still use the SC, installing as a service isnt that important.

Is SC in the same package or is there a seperate download url for this? If so, could you give me the link? ( couldn't find link in the forum post either:\ )

Okay, thanks. IP's will be fine now now then =)
