Enabling communication

Post by Stefan van Aalst »

My day to day work involves teaching and presenting. Sometimes doing this quickly via Internet is the most ideal way.

Skype is wonderful for talking (reliable, good quality and for free). Yet for giving a presentation or to demonstrate something hardly anything exists.

I love UltraVNC for it is reliable, fast, provides good quality and again it is for free. The thing that I miss is the following:

- a simple way to let users connect to my PC with a temporary username/password based on preset settings.
- I approve if they can have access
- during the connection I can give/deny remote control

Ideally I like something like VNC Viewer SC (by the way, a wonderful good working program). Just download, click, click and we're doing what we should be doing.

What I now have to do is the following:
- change the password on the VNC server (I use VNC for a lot of things and I don't want people who I gave temporarily access that later on they can connect to my PC
- send the VNC viewer file
- tell them the address and password (and if need be some settings) ...this I can 'automate' with a shortcut, but one single file would be much nicer

So what I like to have is in addition to Current User Settings something similar but with TEMPORARY USER SETTINGS with 2-3 customizable profiles

E.g. profile 1: disable viewer input, querry on incoming connection, multi-viewer, its own login/password (like guest/guest; the domain and/or ip address of the users is often not known)

During the session I like to enable and unable the viewer input from specific users.

If someone has a good alternative, please let me know.
