Hi all,
I'm hoping someone can help me out with a few newbie questions. I've got a basic HTPC setup (tv, receiver, xp desktop pc, all in wonder card, harddrive with lots of movies and mp3s). What I want to do is use my laptop to connect to the desktop, and direct the desktop to play movies/mp3s/programs on my tv/stereo. Usually I use Windows Media Player for the movies, and Musicmatch for the mp3s, but I don't really care that much.
Someone in another forum suggested I use ultravnc for my purposes, since Remote Desktop Connection doesn't quite let me do these things.
(1) I've got ultravnc installed and can connect to the desktop just fine. What's the deal with the lil video driver? Do I need it? What's it for? If I use it, does that mean I won't be able to use my all in wonder card/drivers?
(2) When connecting laptop to desktop, I don't wanna watch movies on the laptop, but only have them be "directed" to the tv. Is this possible with ultravnc?
(3) Does anyone around here have a setup with the kind of functionality I'm describing? Any tips or tricks would be much appreciated.

I do something similar to this, it works 'ok' with vnc(just now starting to use ultavnc) An even better solution for starting/stopping video is to use www.videolan.org and use their web interface. With it I can pause, full screen, fast forward or rewind by going to http://tv-pc:port Their support documentation and forums are great. Even better, it's GPL, free, and multiplatform
