Can't connect my system to a remote system on DSL

Post by skyace888 »

I came across this program and am having trouble getting it to connect. I have cable Internet at home and I'm behind a WRT54G router. I am trying to connect to someone's computer who is on DSL, connected directly to a Westell modem. I have UltraVNC installed on my system and I instructed the other person to do the same over the phone. I told them to go to www.whatismyip.com and give me their IP address. I then instructed them to disable their firewall, as I did mine, and tried to connect to them. It would not let me connect at all. My IP is configured as the DMZ host in my router. What else should I check?

Thanks,
Al

Al,

Did you check out Single Click it is designed exactly for that purpose??
SC Step by Step

It is good to try to get it working on a LAN first

Another problem you might have

UltraVNC or any VNC or Remote Desktop is Unstable over ADSL

Just a few ideas??

Thanks for the tip. I came across a file called SCIII_test5.exe and was able to make a connection over the Internet with the standalone VNC server. I found the instructions on another post. I guess it uses some kind of repeater at uvnc.com.

Guest,

SC can run with or without repeater.

If you are interested in the repeater

Bevtech, the post by Guest was actually me. I cleared my cache and forgot to log back in. Anyways, all I did was put in an ID:123456 on my system along with the uvnc.com:443 under the proxy/repeater section. Afterwards, I sent the other person the SCIII_test5.exe file and had them put in the same ID. It worked flawlessly for me! I'm not exactly sure how this works, but it does.

Al,

That probably is a test single click

You can create your own Single Click if you wish

Take a look at the Single Click Forum if you are interested.

Dwalf created a very good SC step by step..:)

Is there any advantage for me to create my own "single click" as opposed to the one that I have used already?

More customizable, Not dependant on uvnc repeater etc.

If you are happy with what you got then great. I just wanted to make sure that you knew you can create your own if you wish..:)

I am happy with this one for now. Maybe if I have the time and a need to do so, I'll try creating my own. Thanks for the help!
