Hi, I downloaded SC here and configured the helpdesk file to the best of my knowledge. I read some topics here and also that PDF file created by one of the members here...thanks for that.
For the helpdesk file, do I input my "real" IP address as reported by http://www.ipchicken.com? Do I use the port listed on that site also (the part that says remote port: xxxxx...)?
Now for the port forwarding part, this is the section I don't like the most since I'm not familiar with it at all. I just use the 5500 as the port. I'm using a Westell Versalink 327W router/modem and I put 5500 in the Global Port range and Base Host Port. Using TCP protocol. Hope I set that properly...Do I need it for UDP port also?
Do I need to have a static IP or use DNS? My router assigns a local IP (192.168...) for my computers.
Confused a little on a few more things:
1. Is this UltraVNC or WinVNC? I see that the SC program says WinVNC when it's run.
2. Do I have to run the vncviewer.exe first before the user connects? And is this the GUI version or is there a command prompt? Asking because I see everywhere that users mention vncviewer -listen (seems like a command line thing).
3. Do I need to enter the other user's IP address in order to connect or will that SC program do its own thing (assuming everything is working properly).

I thought we had to use IP addy followed by port 5500? OK, I hope I did this correctly. I used No-IP to do this. So I just entered something like this instead:
name_I_created.no-ip.info
in place of the IP address and port number in helpdesk.txt Is that correct?
Just curious. What's the difference between vncviewer and the one with the -listen parameter?

I presumely is OK because you don't paste the part of [HOST]in place of the IP address and port number in helpdesk.txt Is that correct?

1. I opened port 5500 in ZoneAlarm for TCP and UDP...both incoming and outgoing.
2. Windows firewall - I created two new services in the Services tab. I added TCP and UDP 5500 ports.
3. Next I went to my Westell router settings and added a new service with TCP/UDP 5500 ports enabled.
4. I updated the helpdesk.txt file with my current IP followed by :5500 for the port.
5. Uploaded zip file to get EXE and sent it to one of my friends.
6. I ran vncviewer with the -listen 5500 parameters, then told my friend to run the EXE file. Nothing happened. Then I tried entering his IP manually into VNC Viewer and got a failed message.
Do I need a static IP for my laptop (or enable that Static NAT thing I see in my router)?
SingleClick doesn't require any setting changes on the host side right? Like for my friend, does he need to forward port 5500 also? I just told him to run the EXE file as that's what I think is the whole point of SC (to take away the workload for the other end user and just configure for the client).
