SC connection across firwall

Post by kaldag »

I have set up the helpdesk.txt to be routed to my DYSDNS address and have routed the correct port on my router to my private network address and still get the Fail to connect to server message. What am I missing?? I would like to use this for remote support across a Internet connection. Any help would be appreciated.

SC is part you give to your customer, friend, family, don't need open port)
SC (aka vnc server) initate outgoing connection to vnc viewer
SC vnc server ---> internet --> vnc viewer -listen 5500

vnc viewer side:(yourself)
port 5500 need to be opened on your NAT/firewall router not your partner

I understand all of your reply. I have the port on MY router pointing to a IP on my network. Why can't I connect to MY computer from an outside system. What piece do you think I am missing. Would the repeater be helpful or the NAT sysem??t

You have only one computer, is better to just check your NAT router table and check firmware (downgrade or upgrade) depend of your router spam name and check if you not have another active firewall on your computer.
[topic=4083][/topic] and control your settings of your Dynamic DNS service if correctly set.

Would the repeater be helpful or the NAT sysem?
repeater can help you in these situation:
  • firewall issue (software and/or hardware)
  • dmz (with port opened to Internet)
  • many customers and many support staff
  • security, control connection (internal or external)
  • classroom, show room
  • learning repeater ;-)
until today,
actual repeater don't help you if you want:
  • direct connection
  • interconnect as p2p by intermediate host (repeater) without known partner IP or hostname
as nat2nat like NAT Helper (NH with NSC and NVC because is not inside the vnc viewer and not inside vnc server.
