HELP with VNC viewer.

Post by NikkiYahew »

Hi there,

I have encountered some very strange behavior. Using the same setup program on two different Windows XP machines (both XP-SP2). The VNCViewer will work on one machine but not the other. On the other that doesn't work, when I run the client, I got his dialog box:

Image

After some digging, I added english.dll and lang.dll to the UltraVNC directory and I got this:

Image

Now, on the second machine that works after the installation (without lang.dll and english.dll), I got this:

Image

How come I am having this problem using the same setup program I downloaded from the UltraVNC website? Why am I missing here? How can I fix this problem?

Thanks!

Nikki

Nikki,
Did you have previous version of Ultra VNC or any other flavor installed on the machine before??

I use the www.ultravnc.com for all of my downloads and never came across that problem.

Very very odd. If you install the messed up one reboot and reinstall it does it come up with the Yellow box again??

You are even using the same downloaded file. Just doesnt make any sence. :|

Those are the only things I can think at this time. Maybe another user will have a better answer for you..:D

Take Care

This is an odd thing indeed. It is a new install. Previously, I have the older version installed but I have recently flatten the HDD and reinstall the OS. It doesn't make any sence to me but it is right here in front of me. I need some developer's answers please!!!

Thanks!

Same thing after a clean install

Post by NikkiYahew »

Hi guys, I cleaned the VNC installation from my computer (remove all the registry items and folders). After re-install, I got the same problem. Even if I copied all the files from a machine where VNC is working right.

When I clean the registry, I looked on the vnc and orl as the keyword and delete the keys and values accordingly. To remove the files, I ran uninstall and then manually remove files in "program files\ultravnc". What else am I missing here?

Your suggestions are welcome!

OS XP SP2 language same on computer not working ?

because the french build not fully translatedy, so I was removed lang.dll aka french.dll for a full UltraVNC english build.

next step...
check if there really not exist any spyware, any adware
check with serious tools like WinTasks 5.0 Pro complementary to an Antivirus
UltraVNC 1.0.9.6.1 (built 20110518)
OS Win: xp home + vista business + 7 home

Viewer wierdness

Post by frosty »

Hi everyone,

Last week I started experiencing three problems with my Windows XP VNC Viewer 1.0.1:

1) All the toolbar icons disappeared. The buttons are still there (evidenced by the button outline appearing when I mouse over them), but all the images are missing.

2) While double-clicking a .vnc file opens the viewer, double-clicking VNC Viewer results in a small window titled "Ultr@VNC Info" with a yellow exlamation, an OK button, and nothing else. The message box disappears after clicking OK, but the app doesn't run.

3) After connecting by double-clicking a .vnc file, right-clicking the VNC Viewer instance on the task bar results in almost all of the menu options being blank.

I uninstall and reinstalled UltraVNC 1.0.1, but that didn't make a difference.

To my knowledge, every other app is running file on this machine.

Any ideas?

Well, I don't know if you have already tried to clean the registry. If not, try deleting HKLM\Software\ORL and the re-install VNC.

Your problem sounds almost the same as mine. If you find an answer elsewhere, please remember to post it here.

Thanks.

I've same problem.

Post by CesarF »

Repeated all mentioned steps
Older machine worked until some time ago... (not sure when)
Now it is not working (some software added since but I don't know how to check which one is newer than UltraVNC)
I'm installing a new machine and UltraVNC 1.0.1 is working and installed with the same exe

When I try to ShowUserSettings, I receive this error:
The WinVNC settings for the current user are unavailable at present

Hope this helps to find out the problem.

Your problem sounds similar, except that this installation of UltraVNC has been running fine on this specific machine for a few weeks now. I haven't got a clue what precipitated the problem.

I'll try cleaning the registry keys and reinstall.

Thanks.

I uninstalled UltraVNC.

I cleaned out all registry settings pertaining to VNC.

I rebooted.

I reinstalled UltraVNC 1.0.1.

The problem is still there. Any other ideas?

I'm trying to think what other software I installed around the time that UltraVNC got hooped.

I installed the latest iTunes and Quicktime. Could this be related?

Actually Frosty, nobody is exactly sure what the problem is. We have been trying to figure out what is causing the yellow box. I guess some have had some luck if they add the lang.dll. But it still isnt right.

 I do have one idea did anyone enable logging on the servers to see if an error appears in there??

It is under the Winvnc server admin properties.

I just thought of that one I wonder if that can shed some light on what the heck is going on...:D

Hi Bevtech,

I just turned on logging. No errors there that I can see. The problem(s) with my VNC Viewer occurs no matter what VNC Server I connect to.

Still no workout to this?

No, because I have iTunes 6.0 and QuickTime 7 and uvnc 1.0.1 on all my XP computers
I had installed UltraVNC then iTunes and QuickTime from same package
and everything work fine

There was some previous message about the lang.dll

It seems that not only the current path, but also system32 is checked for
the existance of lang.dll
The cause in this case was that an other application has put a lang.dll
in system32.

Natural, as this dll has nothing to do with vnc in cause a (!)

Hello Rudi De Vos,

That was it. There was, in fact, a lang.dll in my \windows\system32 folder. I renamed it and now UltraVNC runs normally.

But now how to figure out what app lang.dll belongs to?

touchabove wrote:I did a search and found a lang.dll in my system32 dir, but no English.dll. So I renamed the lang dll to something else (ie. lang.dlx) , started RSS server and it worked.

Some other programs must install lang.dll, I need to figure out which because I don't want to break something else, but if needed a english.dll should be provided in cases like this. (not just any English.dll but the one for RSS or Ultravnc, Bit Comit provides a English.DLL but I think it is program specific)
Rudi De Vos wrote:I guess we better change lang.dll to uvnc_lang.dll in the code.

Ah. I hope no other apps break while waiting for an update.

Thanks Redge.
