VNC and SW Firewall

Post by andreaacme »

Hi, I have UltraVNC server installed on an XP-SP2 PC (with SW Firewall and ADSL conn. to internet).
Via LAN I access the server OK with XP-FW and Sygate Firewall disabled

As soon as I activate Sygate SW Firewall it stops working leaving me with a pending pre-login screen "Negotiating protocol version...".

Firewall is configured to grant full access to everyone for application UltraVNC Server.

Am I missing something on my FW config? I thought you only needed ports 5800 and 5900 open (I opened them all).

I have a suspect that I haven't got my ICS setup corretly and that ALG.exe, IPNAT and some other programmes need also access for this to work.

Help and quesitons are welcome.

My final intent is to enable remote control through the internet via UltraVNC. I am far from the solution .... is it possible with an ISP giving me dynamic IP? I'm connected 24h/7, ip shouldn't change.

Thanks.

I dont understand how you are connecting.

E.g. - computer A and B on same network or computer A to B with your external IP address with ICS on?

Regardless you state it works without your FW on. So the only culprit is something on the firewall is blocking it even though you have allowed it.

My buddy uses the SYGATE firewall. The only way that I could connect to him is by using the beta SCIII and The Beta Repeater 4

It uses port 443 which is almost always open

I do hope this helps you
