Apart from the colour deep, the client is slow

Post by IH870 »

I installed the latest version [w/o special drivers and using default config] onto good HW with w2ksrv; it runs as a service and works.
I tried just with one client into the same switched 100mbits LAN.

Unfortunately the client is always slow; with the "quick options" I can trim it from "ULTRA" to "SLOW" and performance doesn't change.

Sounds weird, doesn't it?
Any help will be appreciated and I thank in advance

I highly recommend installing the vnc video drivers on the server. I've noticed marked improvement. It's not always viable for survellance(sp) intents, but removing the wallpaper when connecting to the server also helps a great deal.

While I love UltraVNC (pwns) if you are using this to connect to a windows 2000 server, I highly suggest using Remote Desktop Protocol instead - for security reasons primarily. It lacks the file transfer abilities, but the encryption is reportedly a touch better and the response speed is much quicker than any VNC client I've seen.
