VNC causes unexpected reboot

Post by takedownca »

Hi, whenever a vnc connection is initiated on my computer it causes a reboot after a minute or so. This occurs regardless of whether my pc is acting as the client or server and has been happening with any version of vnc I've tried (which at the moment includes tightvnc and ultravnc). If anyone knows what could be causing this I would be very appreciative. VNC is great, but it would be even greater if I could actually use it on/from my home pc.

My setup:
Win2K SP4
AMD Athlon TBird 1GHz
500MB
MSI K7 Turbo2
Geforce2

unexpected reboot

I was having this same problem. I looked in the Add/Remove Programs window in my control panel and discovered that R11b and R18 were both installed. I removed all VNC programs from my PC Completely and reinstalled R18. Everything worked fine after that.

Hope this helps

Nope, I only have RC18 installed. Whenever I install a new version I uninstall the old. This is also true for when I switched from TightVNC to UltraVNC.

I have the same problem.

I only have 1 instance of UltraVNC on my Add/Remove Programs list.
Whenever I initiate the connection, it asks for password, but when I enter it, the viewer hangs and the computer running the service reboots.

not sure if this is it or not, but i had the same thing happening. when i connected to newly upgraded RC18 clients, they would reboot.

i had remembered installing the add-on video hook driver when using RC11d, so i ran the "setupdrv uninstall" on the new RC18 pcs and the rebooting stopped. i now do the video driver uninstall in my scripts to make sure that doesn't happen again.

hope this helps...

There might be a video hook problem, but I don't think that's what's causing it. This was happening first with TightVNC and now with UltraVNC (uninstalled/installed separately) since before the video hook driver was released.

Whenever I'm connecting to or from (server or client) my home pc, it will reboot after a few seconds. I'm able to connect and it will seem to be working, but then BAM... pc restarts w/o warning. VNC's a great tool, but it's really frustrating not being able to use it where I really need it. I suppose I can't ask for too much since I didn't pay for it:)

Ok, for no particular reason it seems to be working now when I use my computer as the client. I used it for about 10 minutes with no restart. I'll test the server when I get to work.
