Noob questions making it work like Help Desk VNC

Post by Alanhalls »

Ok, so this is my first day with any of these VNC softwares. I can't seem to figure out how to get everything setup correctly. I first purchased Help Desk VNC after using it once to help my mother. Then wondering why I had to pay 89 buchs for a version of VNC, I looked it up and learned that they were just charging for some time programing UltraVNC into what appears to be a single click model.

I have been able to get the session started going one way, but not the other, meaning I am able to control my desktop from the laptop if I click on the VNC Viewer on laptop and put it in. But if I use the custom.exe Single click file I made using:

Code: Select all

I get the tray icon for about 1 second then dissappears without doing anything on my desktop.

So trying to figure out a couple things:
1. What service needs to be running on my Desktop computer so that when they click on the Custom.exe I get access to their desktop? Is it the Server, or Viewer or Viewer in Listen mode?

2. Does there need to be any passwords in that file?

And is there a way to edit the port that the listener listens on?

Problem solved sort of, was still getting problems trying to run it on port 443, but if I just run it plain vanilla on 5500 it works.

Load the Viewer in listen mode, then run the SC file.

HelpDeskVNC exists for a couple of reasons

Post by T313C0mun1s7 »

I just thought I might point out why you payed $85 dollars
  • 1) As you are finding out, building it yourself may be more than some people would want to do
  • 2) Single Click is a fairly new project, it may have not even existed when you purchased HelpDeskVNC
  • 3) HelpDeskVNC will allow you to reconnect automatically after a reboot
I am sure there are more reasons, but as I said Single Click is fairly new, and I am not that familiar with it.

FYI - I recently got an e-mail from Scott at HelpDeskVNC, he is upgrading it to the current version of UltraVNC and he will update the website when he is done. He is not sure when it will be finished. I also got the impression that people who had purchsed HelpDeskVNC within a reasonable amount of time may be able to get a free upgrade to the new version; however, he did NOT state that himself, it was just the impression I got based on my question and his response.
