Encryption

Post by Guest »

I've been reading for ages now so I hope I've got this right. Though, I know I may be missing some key parts.

This is what I want to do:

This is a small office. Two Computers. Shared DSL Internet connection split using a Linksys 4port switch and Wireless router (wireless disabled.)

One of them (let's call it CompA) is the important one in the office. It is the 'server' to a program (therapist helper) in the local lan - that program being the sole reason and need for using UltraVNC.

This is what I think I should do:

Install UltraVNC on CompA.

Enable PPTP Pass Through on the LinkSys router. Though I admit that it may already be enabled by default.

Port Forwarding. I'm a little uneasy about this. Essentially, the ports 5900/5800 will be activated and sent to the IP of CompA (which is already set as a static IP.)

To be honest, I don't know how I'd do this so I could look at BOTH computers. With DMZ Host I can automatically run everything to one IP Addy aka CompA.

Get my ISP to either change from DHCP to to a static IP or something called Dynamic DNS. Where you get a DNS name linked to your ip number.

Install UltraVNC Viewer on my home computer. Use the static IP (or Dynamic DNS) to then log in.

Install UltraVNC Viewer on my home computer.

I guess I'm missing one part of the puzzle. It's important info I'm going to be looking at. I know there is a patch for encryption I just haven't found a link or a name to go by. Just that there is this mystical patch (or patches) that I can get. Can someone point me in the right direction here? If there is 'tunneling' involved then I may be out of my league.

So, how did I do? You'll have to forgive me if I've missed some of this on the help files. I've been looking at other flavors of VNC and so far I'm leaning on this one and RealVNC. Either way - I need encryption. Thanks for your help.

It's not a patch, but a plugin to encrypt communication between Ultr@VNC Server and Ultr@VNC Viewer.

Note: Just create the key on the server and then copy it to both viewer and server machines in the ultra directory along with MSRC4Plugin.dsm.
Make sure server has the use dsm plugin checked.
