How to: SecureVNC with keyfile, withOUT passphase?

Post by mman_28791 »

Hello friends,

I'm having a hard time grasping the configuration of SecureVNC with UltraVNC.

So far it seems I'm able to generate client keyfiles for the server&viewer, both as a means of authentication and for encryption. I believe I'm verifying this when I remove the keyfile from the viewer's machine, and it is no longer able to initiate a session due to a complaint about a missing keyfile.

However I am still always asked for a password, no matter what I try. I was under the impression that the keyfiles being used here would be similar to normal SSH authentication, which serve as both encryption and authentication, removing the need to enter any password at all. Is that the case?

If I am supposed to be able to use only keyfiles and not passwords, can someone please point me in the right direction? If it is not possible, please also let me know as well. I am willing to send the password via command line, but I'd like to avoid that if possible.

server options
1) set option to allow empty passwords
2) erase the password from the ultravnc.ini

If VNC passwd is active, this passwd is verified after the encryption has been setup
( like the login and passwd you need to enter after you connect with ssh)
