Chunk Behind Cisco ASA

Post by arivet »

Hello,

This is my first post on the forums.

I am trying to setup ChunckVNC so that I can connect remotely to a laptop that is behind a Cisco adaptive security appliance (ASA). The laptop is used for monitoring and configuring the ASA.

Attached is a simple diagram showing the topology that I am working with.

My ISP (Comcast) has given me 14 public IP addresses. I have them listed as 123.123.123.123/28 through 123.123.123.137/28 so as not to expose the real IPs that I have been assigned.

I have setup port forwarding in the ASA to forward port 5901 to the IP of the laptop (10.0.1.1). The laptop is also setup as a VNC repeater.

Even after setting up port forwarding on the ASA, and installing the repeater on the laptop, I am still unable to access this laptop from a remote network. Any ideas on why this is?

Looks like you've only forwarded the Viewer port, you'll also need to forward the Server port.

Try following the instructions again: http://www.chunkvnc.com/installationguide.html

EDIT: After reading this again I'm at a loss for what you are trying to achieve here... do you simply need access to this one asa monitoring computer or are you using it to host the repeater so you can support others through it?

Supercoe - thanks for the reply.

I am just trying to gain access to this one monitoring computer.

I was under the impression that I needed to setup a repeater since this computer is behind a layer of NAT. Is that not the case?

Yea, that's not the case.

If you can port forward to a repeater you can port forward directly to the UltraVNC server.

The idea of a repeater is so you can have one spot out on the internet that the Viewer and Server can both see, since they can see it they then can see each other no matter if they are behind NAT or not.
