Can't get PCHelpWare to work

Post by joe_s »

Hi there,

I've installed and set up PCHelpWareV2 RC3 on my Win7/32 PC for testing. However, I can't seem to do anything useful with it.
  • The viewer keeps displaying "Offline" in the left navigation pane. When I right-click, select "Add Group", enter the name of the group I specified when installing, the left navigation pane remains bank for a while and then reverts back to "Offline".
  • When I start the sfx server I've created, it displays the start-up splash screen with the "Starting...." message -- forever.
I've also tried with viewer and server on two different computers in the same LAN, but same issue.
Went through all documentation I was able to find, just to make sure everything is set up as documented -- which seems to be the case.
Ports 5500 (outgoing&incoming) as well as 5901 (outgoing only) are open in company's firewall.
Windows Firewall is disabled.

What else can/should I do to get this working?

TIA for any help
- Jo

Thanks, i am in the same boat! The P2P connects and turns green, but all I can do i get "Info" on the system. No "modules" show up. What could be wrong? Once I figure it out I will rewrite the instructions so it doesn't look like a third grader did it.

Partially solved

Meanwhile I was able to resolve this issue by opening a few ports in the firewall. Apparently these ports are needed so the server and viewer can connect to an access server.

I can now 'Setup P2P' and use the 'Open Desktop' module -- as long as the server and viewer are both in the same LAN. However, I still don't get it to work when the server is directly connected to the Internet (via a UMTS connection in my tests), while the viewer sits behind a NAT/Firewall.

More details can be found in a second thread I've opened in the pchwV2 Beta forum; see http://forum.ultravnc.net/viewtopic.php?f=65&t=29687.
