Hi there,
When trying to connect to my remote PC, I get this message:
The connection viewer displays and has this as the status:
Status: Negotiate Protocol Version
After a few seconds, this pop-up appears:
Connection Failed. Invalid Protocol
Possible Causes:
- You've forgotten to select a DSM Plugin and the Server uses a DSM Plugin.
- Viewer and Server are not compattible (they use different RFB protocoles).
I am not very clued up with all the terms that you use here, so all I need to know, is how to get my connection working.
I do not use any pluin at this stage - mainly because I don't know what to do with them.
Thanx for your help.
Deon

host UltraVNC RC?? or any other vnc flavor and OS used ?
viewer UltraVNC RC?? or any other vnc flavor and OS used ?
so some firewall like XP SP2 with windows firewall active can do this error if there no exception allowed.
only on your host side,
if you have already a router with including firewall,
i would suggest to disable windows firewall on XP SP2 that make more complicate your network than necessary.
all usefull information about encryption plugin is available below

Redge,
thanx for the reply.
I have Ultra VNC Win32 Server 1.0.0 (RC20.3) on both machines.
I have also disabled the firewall on the host machine.
As far as I can tell, my laptop which I 'm trying to get access FROM, does not seem to make contact with my PC at home. I have to go through my Netgear wireless router but have set it to accept remote access at port 5900.
I wll really appreciate your help.

your local test is at your home on WLAN (viewer) --> LAN (host) same subnet
and I suppose you don't use web browser java viewer to connect to your host but only your UltraVNC viewer.
so, bridge your WLAN with LAN for all traffic available.
or
open incoming LAN port 5900 on Netgear for accept traffic of vnc from WLAN network
read your manual from netgear
or/and
http://www.portforward.com

Behind the firewall I can connect perfectly between the 2 PC's in my wireless network. It is only when I try to connect from outside that I can not.
I have opened port 5900 on my Netgear Router and still no success. I get a message that says Invalid Protocol.
Thanx,
Deon

Hi again,
I am now almos 100% convinced that it has got something to do with my router.
I have just successfully connected from this problem PC to my Computer @ work. I have then tried to contact this home PC with UltraVNC from the work PC - needless to say, without any success whatsoever.
I have read everything regarding my router and www.portforward.com and have done as suggested - no success.
(Maybe I just have to accept that my router cannot do the job.)
With my previous router, a D-Link, I could connect without any plugins with a 100% success rate.
Either I'm to stupid for this router or the router is crap.
Thanx again for your time.
Regards,
Deon

your answer is more usefull
i was this problem with a misstake of my self forgot 1 part.
is not suffisiant to open only NAT port 5900 TCP
I was forgotten to open port 5900 TCP and forward them in firewall rule from WAN to LAN
after that, all is OK
