mac screen sharing of a xp running uvnc 1.0.8.2 password

Post by vladio »

I've been finding someone (wife) trying to gain access to my pc (which has my email)... not sure why though. Can I set this up that when I click go_connect to server from my mac desktop then click the vnc address that a password box comes up. I'd just like to secure this better as sometimes my two year old sneaks down and plays with the machines too.

I'm running

mac pro dual quad os x 10.5.8
windows xp pro with uvnc 1.0.8.2

if i understand what you want to do.

prerequesite:
you have 2 user account existing on your xp professional.
you and your wife account.

steps:
xp professional (vnc server) side:
close any others user logged on your xp pro except yourself as computer administrator.
download and add and enable remote desktop multi session on windows xp professional
install the patch downloaded on your xp pro... reboot if required.
http://www.kood.org/terminal-server-patch-21/ (safety, never had any issue)
windows system... tab remote,
enable remote desktop for the account you need

on Internet Gawatay Device (IGD)
open port 3389 aka name Windows 2000 terminal server on the NAT of your home router and select computer or ip of your xp professional, restart router if apply settings is not dynamic change.

mac steps (viewer) side
run the existing remote desktop client of Mac (not vncviewer)
Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Client for Mac 2.1.0

if not exist, download client from:
http://www.microsoft.com/mac/remote-desktop-client
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/d ... layLang=en

awaited result:
on xp professional, both user can use their own session (you from remote computer) and your wife locally without disturb together)

hope this is clear.

I had this work around on xp pro
now i had switched to win7 home premium with rdp patch.
right now for writing this post and my wife use the same computer home computer at same time, we don't disturb togueter. she play on physical computer and me from remote computer .
