Activation of Sticky Keys hangs server

Post by klapton »

It seems that activation of Windows' Sticky Keys accessibility component, whether intentional or not, causes the UltraVNC server to hang on Windows XP (haven't tested against Vista or Win7).

This may have previously been misdiagnosed as a problem in the clipboard functionality because Sticky Keys could be accidentally triggered by multiple Ctrl-C / Ctrl-V events.

To workaround the problem, try disabling Sticky Keys and other accessibility hot keys from the Control Panel. If you don't have the accessibility option on your control panel, then the changes can be made through the registry as documented here:
http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.x ... 715e6c50c/

I also found this forum thread that mentions to change the Sticky Keys registry value to 26 to completely disable Sticky Keys.
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/For ... a5da94e84c
This can also be set through GPO.

To reproduce when the Sticky Keys hotkey is enabled:
While connected to the remote server/host, open Notepad on the remote and depress Ctrl multiple times consecutively. Notice the server service will hang. In order to recover, the uvnc_service must be stopped and both winvnc processes must be killed and then restart the uvnc_service.
