one thing i think that would help end users the most, hands down, would be decent and instant context sensitive help for any option they hover their mouse over via a popup hint message.
hardcore users will insist on an option to hide these popup hints.
there are a ton of options in winvnc and vncviewer and while they all make sense to the developers, end users can blank stare at one option for 20 minutes and still not have a single clue what that option might do.
end users look to the readme's and other documentation for help. some actually jump on the forums and start searching. but the information could easily be added as a hint so the information is instantly available at your fingertips - at a glance - without having to web all over the place to find the information you need.
for instance... "disabletrayicon". ok, that probably makes sense to the guy that put it there. but i had to try it and experiment with it before i realized it's purpose. a popup hint for that could easily be added... "check this option to hide winvnc's local system tray icon (requires restart)". something like that.
anyway, it's just an idea.
it would go a long way in reducing the demand for updated documentation. additionally, end users would need less support.
empower the people!
sorry if this idea was posted anywhere else, i didn't see it.

Well, yes, surely it would increase the size of the app, but who actually cares?redge wrote:TightVNC have this feature pop up help hints.

We are talking about a few hundred kb (even MB wouldn't matter) in a time where almost every up-to-date cell phone has at least 32 MB of memory and you can hardly get a USB-stick with less than 64 or 128 MB...
