Please help with lan connection

Post by Ciuchin0 »

Hi!

I have this situation:

Server: AMD duron 900 with 256 MB ram, running ultravnc server rc 19 and a dsl connection 1512d/256u

Viewer: AMD Athlon XP 1700 with 512 MB ram, running ultravnc viewer rc 203 and a dsl connection 1280d/256u

I can connect without any problem, but it seems soooo slow that I actually cannot do anything on the server...
Can the server specs be too "slow"??
BTW I even tried to connect via LAN (100mbit) with the server but it's slow too...
Please somebody help me...

Your specs are well over what you need for a decent connection. Can you see if upgrading the server to rc203 helps?

In the afternoon I'll try to upgrade server to 203 and I'll post the results...

I updated server&viewer to 203 and installed correctly the videohook driver, but the situation doesn't change... Everything is so slow even if I connect server and viewer via LAN... The only thing I can think of is that the server has low specs... Can it be the pci videocard (an old one with only 4 megs of video ram)?

I finally got it working: I changed the old 4mb pci videocard of the server with a "new" 64mb agp videocard...
Now it works very well.
I hope it will be helpfull for others...
