Programs in Program Files/ChunkVNC Directory

Post by B »

In my C:\Program Files (x86)\ChunkVNC directory, I have the following files, since Chunk was deployed as a service.
Directory of C:\Program Files (x86)\ChunkVNC

04/21/2010 10:33 PM <DIR> .
04/21/2010 10:33 PM <DIR> ..
11/18/2009 12:46 PM 112,192 cad.exe
02/25/2010 12:10 PM 288,275 ChunkVNC.exe
04/21/2010 10:33 PM 130 chunkvnc.ini
01/19/2010 09:19 PM 982,680 InstantSupportVNC.exe
01/10/2010 10:27 PM 32,509 logo.jpg
01/08/2010 10:49 PM 235,008 MSRC4Plugin.dsm
02/08/2010 05:03 PM 87 rc4.key
01/04/2010 05:15 PM 42,936 schook.dll
04/29/2010 06:41 PM 1,350 ultravnc.ini
9 File(s) 1,695,167 bytes
Based on the past (and present) potential problem with the "it deletes your whole drive" bug for people running that executable file from the ZIP source, I have to ask -- is it similarly dangerous to manually run either of those two .EXEs in this installed directory?

I was only tempted to do so since I didn't have another copy of UltraVNC installed, and I wanted to test something for a poster here.

I see 3 executables... ;)

Since it was installed properly nothing bad will happen.

cad.exe -> Control Alt Del, but you already knew that. :P

ChunkVNC.exe -> Will ask "Remove service and uninstall" choosing yes will remove this directory and all of the files in it. It will also remove the UltraVNC service. The uninstall link on the desktop runs this.

InstantSupportVNC.exe -> Just a renamed winvnc.exe, you could potentially run this again but it will complain unless you've stopped the uvnc service.

You have my curiosity now as to what your planning to accomplish? Why not just uninstall ChunkVNC and use UltraVNC normally?

Yeah yeah yeah, I was talking about the chunky exes and we both know it. :)

Though I wouldn't have expected ChunkVNC.exe to uninstall; good to know.

Mostly, as I said, I wanted to run some tests for other posters. One was in order to try command line arguments, but sometimes I'll want to check the JavaViewer or security options, or just get the right names for certain parameters/features.

Anyway, now that I know InstantSupportVNC.exe = WinVNC.exe , I can test when I need to, without having to worry about dual UVNC installations.

Thank you!

Edit: More to the point, I don't HAVE regular UltraVNC installed, in part because of the conflicts I sometimes see when running multiple versions of VNC. We've talked about this before; I think it's mostly a registry thing, despite command line arguments to the contrary. I tried to isolate it for a while but gave up.

P.S. Direct JavaViewer tests seemed reliable today, while Chunk connections via repeater continue to be a "sometimes" thing. After closing a direct JavaViewer session, ChunkViewer worked on the second try. (First try gave the "running as an application" false error.) By the way, this was with MSRC4 temporarily off, to support the Java viewer, but I don't think that makes a difference.
