Right-Click from Macintosh ARD client?

Post by aladdin »

Hi, I'm using UltraVNC for controlling several rack-mount server from PC or Mac workstation. On the PC side, I simply use UltraVNC client and from Mac I use the actual AppleRemoteDesktop (ARD) with build in VNC support.

While all this works great, I cannot right-click from ARD! Anyone having a solution for this? Thanks

... I'm using mostly Microsoft Intellimouse devices; several different models. But none works! Also the standard Apple Mouse with crtl-click for right-click does not work :-(

...If he wasn't already, why would he be complaining about not being able to right-click?

In any case, to the original poster (or anyone that stumbles onto this thread) - if using the UltraVNC viewer to connect to ARD VNC server, try enabling the "swap mouse buttons 2 and 3" option in the viewer. ARD appears to treat the inputted mouse buttons differently than other VNC servers. It assumes that the middle button is button 2, and the right mouse button is button 3 for some reason.

Still looking for right-click from ARD to UltraVNC on XP

I also have the "how do I send a right-click command from a single-button Mac running Apple Remote Desktop 2.2 on Tiger to a Windows XP SP2 machine running UltraVNC?" problem.

I have found no solution *yet*. But I offer some consolation:

I discovered that command-double-click will open the "Properties" page of an object on the remote computer.

Ok - so that's not the greatest discovery of the 21st Century but I've tried almost every damned key combo I can think of - and I haven't been able to find the right-click. Annoying because I also found that the command-double-click trick doesn't seem to work on System Tray icons! DAMNATION!

Please - if you find any notes/solution - post it here with lots of magic keywords like:
Apple Remote Desktop 2.2
Mac OS X Tiger
Windows XP SP2
UltraVNC 1.0.1

BTW - I have not had any issues with ARD controlling UltraVNC. Thanks guys.

I use OSXvnc 1.6.1 and Chicken of the VNC 2.1b3 on Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.3 with a Logitech two-button scroll-wheel mouse, and I can right-click and use the scroll wheel and button when I connect from the Mac to a Windows XP box.

If the latest Apple Remote Desktop doesn't support this, then switch to the freeware OSXvnc and CotVNC products when you need the right-click.
