3.0 problem with opening an .exe

Post by jjatsk »

I dont ever remember this being a problem before and i have installed many programs on clients computers but all of a sudden now if i am connected to a clients PC and i open up any .exe file or even have them open it up i get booted out automatically. Is there a setting for that i might have accidently changed? Thanks and still awesome program!!

Sounds like Vista or Windows 7 is pausing as it kicks up a UAC prompt?

The newer versions handle this gracefully so long as you install the VNC server as a SERVICE. If you don't I think there are still issues. Search the forum for "UAC" to find out more.

Correct, before 3.1 the included UltraVNC would close the viewer if the person being helped had a UAC prompt pop up.In 3.1 the viewer will freeze until the UAC prompt is gone.
Keep in mind that you won't have access to control the program that required administrator access but you will be able to see it.
As B stated you must use the Install as Service tray option to be able to control UAC prompts.

Ok i reinstalled the UltraVNC "Full Install" on my computer with all the options checked during install. It is now running as a service. I tried again but the same thing happended when the UAC comes up it kicks me out of the other computer right away. Is it because i am using the chunk viewer? Do i need to use the regular UltraVNC viewer instead? If so i tried but not sure on how to connect and put the code in using the regular one?

The client doesnt have to run the chunk.exe a certain way do they? They just download and hit run correct?

Thanks again.

jjatsk,

ChunkVNC 3.1 has a prerelease build of UltraVNC by pgmoney where he has applied the UAC patches.

You can find the executable here:

Wait a sec -- so people downloading the current releases of UltraVNC (and not Chunk or a similar mod/fork/wrapper) are still going to suffer from UAC issues?

B,

The only problem that people should have with 1.0.8.2 is that the viewer closes when a UAC prompt comes up if it's not installed as a service.

This was fixed by pgmoney after 1.0.8.2 was released and the fix should be in the next build. In the mean time pgmoney has greatfully compiled the patch and it can be found in the previous link where the devs are collecting patches.

Okay, that's kind of what I thought.... but the poster above wrote "It is now running as a service. I tried again but the same thing happended when the UAC comes up it kicks me out of the other computer right away."

So does that mean he or she is not running 1.0.8.2, or something else is amiss?

Oops, I missed that....
The UAC prompts should be controllable even with the default install with the service option...

I don't have time at the moment to test this, anyone else?
