Help with java viewer
Help with java viewer
I am trying to connect to my home computer from school, and have asked the administrator for permisson which he granted, although he said that he would not provide any help or support if I cannot connect.
I have installed the RC19 of UltraVNC on my Windows XP machine. The ports have been left to default, and I have opened them to the schools IP address on my firewall (Sygate). The logs show traffic getting through on both ports 5800 and 5900, as well as any ports about 1000, so I have a large choice of ports that I can use.
I cannot run exe's, and so when I try to logon with the java viewer it connects, downloads the applet, and I can put the password in. Then I get an error that says I cannot connect to port 5900.
I have also tried RealVNC and TightVNC, all with the same results.
Is this a setting on my computer that is causing the connection to be rejected? If I directly access my.ip.0.0:5900 I get access, and get a error number (which I believe is what is meant to happen). Is there a way to connect?
Thanks.

with Ultra VNC by default the application uses port 5900 and the web viewer uses 5800.
Try connecting to -
http://yourip.org:5800
if you have everything set up on your home side for the port to forward properly you should work just fine
Its nice to know that some people ask permission to network admins prior to doing it.

port 5800 TCP + 5900 TCP must be opened on your home router !
vnc 3.3.6 and 3.3.7 limitation to tightVNC 1.3dev6)
vnc 4.x.x need only one port 5900 (http and vnc port use same port )
----- edit -------------
UltraVNC need only one port =>RC19.6 !

Hey WhatsThisBoxFor, I have a similar thing. Can you check the following?
When you see the gray screen, place the mouse pointer on the 'Done' message of IE in the left lower corner and move the mouse pointer straight up slowly. Check if you see the Done changes briefly in the following error message:
I get "Load: Ccass VncViewer not found"
(I'm using the RC19 4 build, XP/SP2)

I have similar problem
My VNC Server machine (Home):
WinXPsp2
Running RC19.5 as a service, with default settings
XP Firewall off
My Router (Home)
Ports 5800 & 5900 forwarded to VNC server machine
Test VNC Viewer from other machines on the home LAN, works fine.
My Client machine (Work):
WinXPsp1
IE 6.0.2800
Sun Java 1.4.2_06-b03
I use dyndns.org, and verified working OK (I can connect to my home router configuration screen from the internet at work)
I enter http://myhost.dyndns.org:5800/ in the browser.
Initially, get grey screen, then buttons with "option", "Record" etc. Then, java error message "Malformed SOCKS reply"
Checked the forums and Google, tried disabling the work proxy for SOCKS.
Now, I get error message "Network error: could not connect to server: myhost.dyndns.org:5900"
Ports 5800 and 5900 are definitely forwarded on the router - any clues?

I had issues when I first tried to use VNC using ports 5800 and 5900.. I have switched to Port 1235 for vnc and 1234 for the viewer. I made sure to add vnc to xp firewall and make sure you're not using zonealarm (unless it's the pay edition it wont allow vnc connections) Forwarded those 2 ports and now everything works perfect... If you read some articles on google some people have said their antispyware blocks those ports because they belong to a RAS (remote adminitration server) which those companies accuse of being a trojan. (very misinformed companies)... you can use http://www.auditmypc.com/freescan/selscan.asp?S=2062 to verify that those ports are open.
UltraVNC =>RC19.6 use only 1 portThe modified version use only 1 port for the java viewer, Javaviewer and data use the rfb port (default 5900)
