SC connecting, but displaying a black screen

Post by mr_cactus »

Hi all,

I'm trying to setup SC and am running into a problem. I've made the .exe on the site and from the computer using it, everything seems ok. The computer running the viewer is having a problem. After accepting the incoming connection, the VNCviewer window pops up. The VNCviewer says "Please wait - Initial screen loading..." for a couple seconds, then goes black and eventually the VNCviewer freezes. The machine running SC seems fine the whole time. It appears there that it connected. My uninformed gut says something is wrong with the listenmode viewer settings, but I'm not sure what. Any thoughts on what might be causing this or how to fix it?

Some perhaps pertinent facts:
- Both machines are running xp SP3
- I can setup a VNC server on the machine running the SC and the viewer machine can connect to it fine.
- A little after trying to connect, I sometimes get another popup on the listener machine saying that an unknown user from a bogus ip (192.168.notmyrouter.whatever) is attempting to connect. This confuses me.

Anyways, I'd appreciate any help you can give. Thanks.

That last pertinent point sounds a lot like I have a virus or malware or something not good. I'm running scans to check for those, but at the moment, I'm assuming those aren't causing the issue with SC not working for me.

vncviewer version do you use ?
you should try vncviewer 1.0.8.2
I have very short time the black screen, then the remote screen appear.

is here how i set the vncviewer in your case.

"%programfiles%\ultravnc\vncviewer.exe" -quickoption 3 -listen

this start vncviewer in listen mode and force use vncviewer quickoption medium,

advantage:
force server to connect to vncviewer with no change colors/resolution while connected to server.
UltraVNC 1.0.9.6.1 (built 20110518)
OS Win: xp home + vista business + 7 home
only experienced user, not developer
