Re: Cannot disable Wallpaper on remote pc with SC and Viewer
Are you talking about SC (Single Click), or the UltraVNC ?
For UVNC, "Remove Wallpaper" need to be configured at server end.
The UVNCserver has an option of "Remove Wallpaper for viewer" (at Admin Properties).
Have you checked if it was selected?

Between single click and the viewer.
Re: Cannot disable Wallpaper on remote pc with SC and Viewer
It's strange.
This feature is hard coded in SC. Not configurable.
Does your server.exe lose this feature on every pc it running on, or just on particular XP boxes?

Re: Cannot disable Wallpaper on remote pc with SC and Viewer
what the type of wallpaper on XP computer ?
wallpaper.bmp (Bitmap Graphics)
wallpaper.jpg (JPEG)
wallpaper.png (Portable Network Graphic)
wallpaper.gif (Graphic Interchange Format)
this could explain why is not removed
SingleClick 1.0.0 remove all fews type of wallpapers.

Re: Cannot disable Wallpaper on remote pc with SC and Viewer
I am having the same problem with UltraVNC 1.0.8.2, full version, running on Windows XP. The server is configured to remove the wallpaper, but it never does when I connect to it from a viewer. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the service, uninstalled and reinstalled UltraVNC, unchecked the box, re-checked it, disconnected, reconnected. All with the same result. The wallpaper never gets removed upon connection.
Initially the wallpaper had been set by Picasa. I changed it to a few of the standard Windows XP wallpapers and got the same result. Wallpaper never gets removed.
Anyone have any clues? The performance with the wallpaper enabled is killing me.
Thanks,
Brian

Third party wallpaper managed by another application like picasa or any other application than windows can't be removed by vncviewer on request.

OK. So why when I change it back to standard Windows wallpaper do I get the same result. The wallpaper does not get removed.
I'm pretty sure all that Picasa does is drop a BMP file somewhere and set Windows to use that file. I've connected to other computers that have wallpaper set by Picasa and it removes that wallpaper fine. I don't think Picasa is the culprit here. There's something going on with this particular computer.
Are there registry settings I can check?

Re: Cannot disable Wallpaper on remote pc with SC and Viewer
Yep. I've seen those registry settings. Most of the references to them, and the RemoveWallpaper entry, are listed for version 1.0.2 or earlier.
What is strange is that NONE of the machines I'm using currently with UltraVNC have that branch in the registry. The [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORL] branch doesn't exist on any XP or Windows 7 machines where I am currently running the UltraVNC server.
They don't exist on those machine, yet UltraVNC is installed and runs fine, including removing the wallpaper. The branch doesn't exist on the XP machine causing me problems with the wallpaper either.

Re: Cannot disable Wallpaper on remote pc with SC and Viewer
uvnc 1.0.8.2 don't use registry by default, so you can find nothing.
settings are saved to ultravnc.ini where is installed your ultravnc server

Re: Cannot disable Wallpaper on remote pc with SC and Viewer
Well, I seem to have narrowed this problem down to the program Fences.
I rebuilt a Windows XP Home Edition machine yesterday and everything was fine with UltraVNC until I installed Fences. After Fences was installed, when I would connect to the box with UltraVNC, the background wallpaper would not disappear. I uninstalled Fences and the wallpaper disappears as expected. Reinstall Fences, and the wallpaper reappears.
So, this may be CAUSED by Fences, but is it the fault of Fences, UltraVNC, or XP?
I have UltraVNC 1.0.8.2 and Fences installed on several Windows 7 machines and it works fine (wallpaper disappears as expected). I don't have any other XP machines where I have UltraVNC 1.0.8.2 and Fences installed to test this out further. I can't remember for sure, but I seem to recall having had earlier versions of UltraVNC installed on XP with Fences in the past and had no problems. Maybe it's an issue with 1.0.8.2?

Re: Cannot disable Wallpaper on remote pc with SC and Viewer
biggsy
installed Fences 1.00.2787Rlease Candidate Free edition from Stardock for test on XP professional sp3 and .net Framework 3.5 sp1 (Fences request a least .net Framework 2.0)
tested
controller: win7rc: vncviewers 1.0.8.2 and vncviewer_tab 1.0.5.4
controlled: xp pro sp3: winvnc 1.0.5.6; 1.0.6.3 ; 1.0.8.2
i can confirm the wallpaper Bliss.bmp or Autumn.jpg is locked by Fences
tested with and without mirror driver 1.22
tested with and without capture alpha-blending (capture alpha-blending is ignored if used by mirror driver 1.22
wallpaper still showed to local and remote while vncviewer connected
