Hello to all (first post),
My setup? Broadband>DynDns.IP(verified)>Motorola Surfboard>Netgear RP614 (Lan IP reserved for server box with ports 5500, 5800 and 5900 forwarded, DynDns on and tested)>XP Home SP2, Norton Internet Security 2003 (Firewall rule allowing connections in/out for ports 5500, 5800, 5900. Win Firewall is off. Clean install of v1.0.0 RC18, Server installed and starts/runs as service, latest Java support installed. I am STILL UNABLE to connect via web :5800 OR via viewer:5900! Verified software integrity with local loopback, Verified registry settings for VNC, even went so far as to verify "Services" for winXP were configured properly.
Browser settings check ok. Browser connection attempts made with different machines.
Tried the following configs:
Static/Reserved ip config via router.
Direct IP (no DNS).
Firewall on/off for all config attempts.
Encryption plugin on/off all config attempts!
I have a need to support remote systems, Ultr@VNC is the solution and it will not work for me.... Any help would be appreciated and thanks in advance.
I did not try RC19, I have access to numerous copies of RC18 running fine on other machines. Hmmmm those have XPPro.....
I feel your pain Sherrifruitfly!
Lloyd

Okay - you gave me a quick look into your network but im confused as to how you are trying to connect to your Server machine - XP SP2 with norton..
do you have computer A) Which is XPSP2w/Norton and Computer B)Which is XPProSp1 whatever Both on your internal network or one internal one external?
If it is internal (meaning both of them are connected to your netgear router) then it has something to do with your server machine's setup.
If one is external and the other internal (this is what I think you are trying to do) have you verified this works properly on your lan first with a laptop or something you can hook up to that netgear router?
My suggestion is to try to get it working locally on your LAN first.. then from there worry about the port forwarding from the router.
With XPSP2 I have heard that even specifying the ports sometimes proves to be problematic... its supposed to give you more controll but sometimes its more of a hinderance than helpfull.
If you have the ability to test out on your lan first and it works fine - most likely root cause - router.. port forwarding and you can just VERIFY your port forwarding setup from http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm your router is listed there so see if there is anything else you can test out on that if your LAN scenario works..
Good luck and godspeed

Hello Ipsec,
Attempts were made from inside out and back with recommended techniques posted here:
http://www.paulscomputerservice.net/ind ... travnc.php
Have tested port forwarding successfully using browser window on server machine>web based tester which reports ports open. During testing I had Norton verify "rule" usage with notification.
I will take another shot at this with an established working internal setup then assault the router/port forwarding.
Thanks!

- I used
1)Same machine as server.
2)Laptop (browser attempt only).

If you have a laptop available - test the vnc viewer also. If you are on your LAN and you can not connect from Laptop to Desktop. Sorry to say it is something on either your laptop or desktop blocking that port. I would merely suggest turning all firewalls off, disabling the XP firewall on the server and any firewall software on the "Viewer." Then, if it works, turn them on one by one and see how it works. That should tell you who the culprit is.
Localhost connections I dont believe actually do you any justice - when you are connecting, your local server is opening the port (if it does that not sure devz can help on this one) which in turn is connected to the open port that was created by the viewer / web browser. Hopefully that makes sense to you.

Gave it a shot from work site and voila! I can connect !! Do not understand why I am unable to prove connectivity as outlined on Pauls site... I spent a lot of time looking for problems that do not appear to exist. Learned a lot though! I am sure I will have more questions for you as I dial this setup in.
Appreciate the guidance.
