Someone using Vista and SingleClick successully?

Post by fredtheman »

Hello

I had no reply to my posts about the issue I'm having when using a SingleClick version of the UVNC server on a Vista host that connects out to a VNC viewer running on XP. I doubt I'm the only one using SC since it's the only way to avoid 1) opening firewalls and 2) having the user run an installer (won't work if not admin).

So... I guess I'm doing something wrong when building the SC application.

Here's the helpdesk.txt file that I use. Could a kind soul show me a working SC configuration file so I can give it a shot?

Thank you.

This may be the same problem I am having. We are trying to use UVNC in this manor. The customer downloads the "server" and hits "Doubleclick to connect" and then I use the "viewer" to offer techsupport...

All is well, as long as the customer is using XP but if he's using Vista the experience is horrible. 20 second lag and virtually unusable.

Am I doing something wrong? Do I have a setting incorrect? How can I fix this?

I have no experience of using SC on Vista, but just want to refer the following threads for your reference:

1. [topic=10505]SC VNC and Vista[/topic], they mentioned:
I did notice a huge speed increase when I turned off Aero, and
Should use 16 bit color depth, disabling Aero but leaving colors at 32bit still resulted in very slow screen refreshes.

2. [topic=11148]SC and VISTA <-- Making it work![/topic], they mentioned:
Have the remote user right click on the uvnc icon on the taskbar, and go to properties. Then UN-check the "Poll full screen (fast)" box and click Apply.
Viola, Fast SC on Vista. but, it is necessary to install hook driver.

Thanks for the tips, but users aren't computer-savvy and run their computers in non-admin mode, so asking them to fidget with Aero is not possible.

So if SC doesn't work out of the box on Vista... can someone tell me what PCHelpware is, and does it provide the same ease of deployment of SC? We need a single EXE that connects out to our viewer. Anything more is not possible with our customers (installing a server with video hooks, opening ports on their firewall to let us in, etc.)

Thank you.

Thanks everyone for all the help:

Turning AERO off solved the problem.

For those of you not Vista savvy here are the directions I gave to my tech guys...

You need to turn "Aero" off.

Here's how you do it.

Tell your customer to turn Aero off
Right click on desktop and select "Personalize"
Select Windows Theme option
Change theme from "Windows Vista" to "Windows Classic"
Select Apply or OK
Now you can connect or, if you were already connected you can now operate their computer.

You can do this yourself if you need to but the Vista lag is terrible and makes it difficult.
You can have the customer do it before you connect or after you connect.
You should change the setting back to "Windows Vista" when you are done.
When I tested this on one Vista machine (Enterprise) it did not require a reboot.

I just found easy way to stop Aero.

If you are admin, on command prompt
"net stop uxsms" turn off aero in a few seconds.
"net start uxsms" will turn back.

I don't know this is safe, but I know it works.

Is it dangerous?
