Hi,
hi managed to set up a repeater on a local server and im able to connect to it (locally) by using the hostname at the proxy menu in the viewer (and ID).
But when i use the ip-address it is not able to connect anymore.
Therefore i cant connect from outside the lan to the repeater, because the router is forwarding to the ipaddress of the server and in the configuration of the router you can enter only ipadress not hostname to forward to.
When i use hostnames inside the lan for both server and viewer it is working, when i use ip-adresses its not working.
Any ideas?? im lost
thanks

Cant connect with ip only by hostname !?!
Re: Cant connect with ip only by hostname !?!
At the viewer pc, open a CMD window, and run:
nbtstat -c [ENTER]
(Note: the "-c" must be lower case, not "-C")
This will return the I.P. of the PCs of the LAN. Locate the repeater host pc. Is the IP returned the same as what supposed to be?

Re: Cant connect with ip only by hostname !?!
This command shows me 192.168.16.68 but actually it uses 192.168.16.12 (checked locally on server with ipconfig).
Strange thing is, it doesnt work with using both....only putting the hostname gives me a "negotiating protocol"and so on....
..Ah ok it shows the ip of my client not the server, anyway...
regards

Re: Cant connect with ip only by hostname !?!
Very very strange!!!
OK! Try this test:
Make a connection from viewer to repeater by using the host name.
At the viewer pc, open a CMD window , run:
netstat -n [ENTER]
This will show a record of the established connection. Locate for the record using port 5901. What is the Foreign Address it connect to?

Re: Cant connect with ip only by hostname !?!
Sorry I should be mentioned, you need to make a connection before using the [nbtstat -c]. It displays the hostname/IP in cache so you must have some operation first.fraggle wrote:..Ah ok it shows the ip of my client not the server, anyway...
Re: Cant connect with ip only by hostname !?!
Hi,
thanks for your help.
Yes it is connecting to the proper server address (192.168.16.12:5901).
If i use this ip afterwards, the viewer just brings a "connecting..."
and doing a netstat then shows me a again a established connection...
i dont get it...
and yes now nbtstat shows me that my server is (unique) 192.168.16.12....
On the repeater it always "adds viewer xy to list" properly.
Furthermore, even when i start the viewer on the (repeater-)server and try to connect to his own 192.168.16.12 or even 127.0.0.1 it doesnt work.
Strange hm?

Re: Cant connect with ip only by hostname !?!
Does it relate to the timing of SC & Viewer connected to the repeater?
Can you try the connection again, and make sure:
First connect the viewer to the repeater (check the log at repeater to make sure the ID is registered), and connect the SC after then.
See if this can make a success connection.
