Setting up UltraVNC to access a Server and client machines

Post by UltraVNC_Beginner »

Hi all,

I know there is alot of information on how to setup this UltraVnc but im still not understanding it 100% well.

This is what i would like to achieve using this software i hope you guys can help me out.

Firstly i would like to connect to a server from outside the network.

2. using the server as a gateway to access all the client machine on the network so i can be able to troubleshoot it.

Because i heard this tool is good for that purpose. instead of vnc to the server and from the server u vnc to the client. UltrVNC does it in one hit.

so could someone give me a step by step walk through with this it would be grealty appreciated.

Thank you,

UltraVNC Installation

Post by darkhelmetchris »

I'm going to assume that you get VNC installed and that you can set it's options. Given that, here's the general idea:

1. If you're behind a router, forward ports to your internal IP addresses. This is different for every make of router/firewall, so I'm hoping you have some knowledge of this. If not, let me know and I'll try and help further.

2. Get the VNC server running on all the machines that you want to access; remember to make VNC a service under 2000/XP, cause if it's not a service it won't be very clean or cooperative.

3. Your internal machines should be using static internal IPs and not DHCP. If your router is 192.168.1.1, try making your machines 192.168.1.10,11,12 and forwarding your ports like this:
192.168.1.10 5800,5900
192.168.1.11 5801,5901
192.168.1.12 5802,5902 (and so on)
... and set your VNC server's properties to respond on those ports for the respective machines.

If you need further help, please say so. I'll check back.

You can also designate one machine on your network to run the Repeater, which allows you to connect in one hit always using the same IP address/port. You can even run the winvnc server on the machine running the repeater as long as they both aren't listening on the same port. see the repeater documentation and look in the general help section for a thread with my name in it, there's some helpful config info there.

problem configurating router

Post by augustose@gmail.com »

I have a router and I have some problems to use VNC trough this equipment.
I have forwarded from WAN to LAN all 5800-5900 ports to the same machine ( mine ) but when I try to connect from Internet, the VNC in the other side say CAN NOT CONNECT TO SERVER.

Thank's in advance for any help
