UltraVNC SC works within the network but not from outside

Post by vishivishi »

Hi there,

I've installed UltraVNC SC on my home network (192.168.1...). The relevant part of the helpdesk.txt looks like so:

[HOST]
HELP DESK - Test
-connect 192.168.1.102:5500 -noregistry

I forwarded 5500 port on my linksys router and the entire setup is working fine - i can connect from my laptop to my desktop (that is i can accept my desktop connecting to my laptop).

Now, I want to help my grandma with her internet basics so I've created no-ip address vishivishi.no-ip and changed helpdesk.txt like so:

[HOST]
HELP DESK - Test
-connect vishivishi.no-ip.info:5500 -noregistry

When I type vishivishi.no-ip.info in IE or ping it in CMD, it connects/pings to my router -- so I take it is working. However, when I try to initiate connection with XXXX.exe from my desktop, nothing at all happens and eventually SC quits.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks very much in advance!

Hi again,

I resolved the problem and thought some people might find my post useful. The problem was in port forwarding, namely, 5500 port number was not unique, i.e. I had it forwarded to several machines on the network using the same port number - 5500 (I did it because my laptop reconnects to my router through wi-fi and it changes its ip address ,e.g 192.xxx.x.101 or 92.xxx.x.104). Once I made 5500 port forwarding unique, my UltraVCN SC started working.

Cheers,
Vishi
