I went to the grc site and did the shieldsup thing for all sort os ports.
I had my router's FW OFF. I had XP FW OFF. I had Comodo FW OFF.
in every case I was told that all my ports were STEALTH. No ports available.
It all sounds so easy.
What now?
Thanks
Nick

Re: setting up
Do you have another PC on the LAN to try and tell if it's the router or security software? I've used MS Port Query to help find issues.

Re: setting up
The who...the what????.....
OK. I need to change my sig lines. I am using V104 RC (the latest....16?).
What could the router be doing? I have _all_ security switched off.
I can't get the stupid icon to appear in the tack bar to see what its details are, but,
I used ms port query
BTW. I ran this test with FW on, not off.
Starting portqry.exe -n 127.0.0.1 -e 5900 -p TCP ...
Querying target system called:
127.0.0.1
Attempting to resolve IP address to a name...
IP address resolved to psyzygy
querying...
TCP port 5900 (unknown service): LISTENING
portqry.exe -n 127.0.0.1 -e 5900 -p TCP exits with return code 0x00000000.
So it appears the server is listening

Re: setting up
To all those who tried to help me.
It works now. Everything in my system is as it was. I had Port redirection worked out right. I had ports open. It _is_ simple.
I have firewalls running. I have the router in place. I have UVNC listening...and a Net-based check shows the port open.
Others have reported VPN etc trouble with my ISP on a forum, for almost exactly the time that I have been trying all of this.
Anyway. Thanks for trying. Specially redge.

Re: setting up
None of them! <G>
It looks as if it was the ISP, redge. All other things were the same as they were before on my system. Stuff suddenly started working.
Others have had trouble with VPNs etc on the same ISP.
Having said that I went to the PC I want to remotely control, and the system failed!. I tried to ping my home IP Address, and could not.
So I am very confused.
