this would be great ... or if one of the programers can point us in the right direction, a few of us should be able to bunble our way through it :)

who help for fix bugs and code fix of UltraVNC 1.0.4 would have later for making the updated SC working as well, because SC is the winvnc as leightweight of full version of winvnc.

Don't forget to use

Code: Select all

upx.exe --best --lzma file.exe
so we archieve best possible compression. This applies for both EXEs and DLLs, for SC and regular release.

Can we now get a new "authorized" SC version built on sc.uvnc.com? What's there currently are 2 ancient versions, one that's not even a stable build (it's RC23) and the other is basedon 1.00, a version long since replaced with much better versions. Honestly, I've yet to get the off-line creators to work right so this is a bit of a selfish request, but surely all of UltraVNC's tools out there should be running on the latest builds. If someone can post an absolute fool proof way to create the .exe off-line I'll be happy to do it, but it seems there are dozens of ways and no one way works 100% of the time EXCEPT the on-line creator.

Yes PLEASE Rudi.
SC is great, but it is sadly getting left behind, UltraVNC has made terrific advances over the past year or so and us on SC feel a bit left out in the cold.. sort of like the guy with the Pentium III at a LAN party full of people playing on their Core2's
An update to the SC.exe's and creator to use the latest VNC 1.05 protocols would be most appreciated

Thanks

Kind Regards

Can we get an official response from a UVNC moderator or someone acutally involved in the development?

I tried some different options of 7-zip. You must know some things:

- by default 7-zip SFX module is NOT compressed. So you need to compress "7z.sfx" (it is renamed EXE) using UPX in order to make endfile smaller.

- fb=160 he=on should improve compression by very small amount of bytes

- 7-zip uses exe converters (BCJ, BCJ2 for Ultra) to improve compression. Here are results:

* winvnc.exe - 241664 bytes (original from my SC)
* winvnc.exe - 109568 bytes (UPX --lzma --best)
* winvnc.exe - 106164 bytes (UPX --lzma --best + 7-zip ultra)
* winvnc.exe - 96708 bytes (original exe + 7-zip ultra)

SO! No need to upx EXEs and DLL from archive !!! Just use latest 7-zip and ULTRA option and pack only 7-zip sfx module !

You are saying by this we can create our own SC version? Can you give us an example of all the files you included as well as what options you used to make it work?

Sadly, I said only, that guys who make SC should not compress exes and dlls using UPX - 7-zip will make it better alone. Only 7-zip SFX module should be compressed using UPX.

BUT! Using UPX (in general) could cause false alarms made by poor antivirus programs. That's why author of 7-zip does not longer use UPX by default.

I'm also finding that if you run 1.05 on Vista as the host, the remote system (regardless of the OS) running SC based on 1.00 is very unstable and drops constantly. If, on the other hand, I run 1.02 on Vista as the host, the remote SC is much more stable.

Come on guys, we really need an SC based on the final 1.05 or much better documentation on how to build it ourselves.

New infomation:

1. There will be revised algorithm in 7-ZIP called LZMA2, probably from version 4.61, not sure when exactly.

2. There is a prioprietary EXE packer called PECompact - http://www.bitsum.com/. It gives slightly worse compression ratio than UPX (for 7-zip sfx), but It does not cause (almost?) any false virus alarms ! -->LINK

http://www.bitsum.com/pecompact.php
Student build: The student version is for academic use or for use on applications distributed without charge (freeware). It is fully functional, but compressed executables may not be redistributed unless done so completely free, without any compensation, whether direct or indirect. To redistribute your compressed executables, they must either be totally freely given away, or you must purchase a PECompact license.
