Can Not connect to server from laptop
Can Not connect to server from laptop
Hello,
I can connect fine to a remote server from my desktop, but not from a laptop on the same local network.
How can I get the laptop to connect ? Something is blocking it ?
Thanks,
Kent

Re: Can Not connect to server from laptop
I can connect to other servers just fine on the laptop, but it will not connect to a server that I can connect to from my desktop.
What would cause UVNC to not connect to a single server, but allow other servers to connect ok ?
Thanks,
Kent

Re: Can Not connect to server from laptop
The laptop is Vista and the server is XP.
The weird thing is that I can connect to other UVNC servers from the laptop but can not connect to the one I need to see. I can connect to that server from my desktop on the same network as the laptop.
Why would I be able to connect to some servers and not others ?

Re: Can Not connect to server from laptop
btw have you tried running the UVNC viewer as administrator (right click onto icon and click run as administrator)
Re: Can Not connect to server from laptop
No error, it just times out with the message "Failed to connect to server"
I tried "Run as adminstrator" and no difference.
I just tried to connect to 3 other computers and it worked fine, but I still can not connect to the one that times out. Just to be sure, I just tried again from my desktop and it connects no problem.
So why can I not connect from the laptop ?

Hi Rocket,
If this is successful, then, I will recommend you next step.
You can connect to "the server" from your PC with the same network. Have you tried to unplug your desktop PC and plug it to your laptop? So, your laptop would have the same network as your PC (your desktop PC) for now. Try it first to connect if with "The server" and let me know.I can connect to that server from my desktop on the same network as the laptop.
If this is successful, then, I will recommend you next step.

Re: Can Not connect to server from laptop
Hello Henry,
I am not sure how this is going to help. I can connect to 3 other servers in different states no problem from the laptop. The problem is the the laptop refuses to connect to a computer, but my desktop connected to the same router connects no problem.
So why does the laptop refuse to connect ?

Re: Can Not connect to server from laptop
Hi Rocket,
Also, have you configured the Vista firewall to accept the connection from UVNC port? Try to read some tutorials given by Bevtech. In his tutorial, he got "PortQueryUI" downloadable from Microsoft. Try to "debug" this problem by specifying the port that will be used.
More information from Bevtech's link:
I am not sure if I understand correctly on your situation. You are saying that you have a laptop and desktop PC on the same router? Your laptop is Vista OS and your Desktop PC is XP? Also, you have already successfully connected from your desktop PC to "the server" and you failed to connect the Vista laptop to "the server"? Are all my understandings about your conditions correct? The problem is the the laptop refuses to connect to a computer, but my desktop connected to the same router connects no problem.

Re: Can Not connect to server from laptop
Hello Henry,
Yes, you understand correct.
The laptop has no problem connecting to other servers. I can connect to three other servers in different states on the laptop, but still can not connect to the fourth server. The firewall is not the problem.
I will try the "PortQueryUI" and let you know,
Thanks,
Kent
