Port 5500 is closed but direct connection still works great?

Post by joe avarage »

A few weeks ago I went through a lot of trouble setting direct connection. My router (Conexant Hasbani based) just flat out refused to let direct connection through. Lately I have been trying to set that router again to no avail. I've set the "Virtual server" port 5500 open for TCP/UDP but still no luck.

What puzzles me that I have a A-link 44C router that absolutely has no port 5500 open (in same Virtual Server settings) but PChelp works like a champ. Every customer and his brother can easily serve direct connection from a wide variety of systems (Vista, XP, you name it). I am getting exellent remote viewing. I am using a dydns service btw.

So everrything works just great with this router. But I can't understand why! I went through www.grc.com and tested all ports and what they had there to test. Everything was fine. Then I opened pchelp viewer just to check 5500 port and sure enought it was open as expected. Closing viewer also closed the port. What setting in the router could be the magic bullet? I need to set up another router, the one I'm having connection problems with.
