Bonjour Support

Post by diamondsw »

It would be very useful if UltraVNC would advertise itself over Bonjour. This is becoming more and more common for VNC servers, as it allows someone to browse computers with VNC as easily as browsing file shares (indeed, Mac OS X Leopard unifies them in the same interface quite nicely).

The SDK is available here. It should be relatively simple to roll your own support if you don't want to rely on a third party.

I think that it is now time for VNC servers to support Bonjour. Both VNC Pocket Office ( iPhone ) http://bit.ly/cM2Adp VNC Pocket office Pro ( iPad ) http://bit.ly/aI5MeD fully support Bonjour. In fact VNC Pocket Office Pro have integrated it into its 3D Cube interface. :D

Really? Bonjour? Even on Macs that's one of the first things we turn off. It causes far more trouble than it's worth in my opinion. And I've never found a Windows user with Bonjour on who didn't want it off their system quickly.

So I would guess the audience for this feature would be hard core Apple people. Personally I'd prefer that time and resources be devoted to something more useful. (That's a big list. :) )
