Instructions on starting to use UltraVNC

Post by ET »

Is there any help file which explains how to get started with UltraVNC (v1.0.0 - RC 18)? I want to be able to view a remote Win98 computer on my XP Pro. The other computer has the server running, and I ran the viewer, typed the other computer's IP address into the host field, and then I get no connection.

It's highly possible that I'm doing something wrong, because I simply have no idea beyond guesses as to what I need to do. I'd appreciate any help in trying to get this working.

Not sure about help file like a "Getting Started" guide

however - people can be more helpful to you than any cookie cutter getting started guide after you test things out.

I guess the questions on your problem is -
What version(s) are you running of UltraVNC
Which computer is the server / Viewer.
Is the server set up as a service(W2K Pro related only)?
Is there a firewall on either machine?
Is the connection being made over the internet or LAN?

From this we can tell you to turn off any firewalls that you may have on to "Test" because sometimes firewalls deny access to programs you truley need to run. If the firewall is the case you will have to set up an exclusion for the program / computer trying to connect.

But I cant tell you a whole bunch until we get a bit more info.
