HELP!! Steps on customizing the GUI of a server?
HELP!! Steps on customizing the GUI of a server?
I recently decided to make the switch from SC to PCHelpWare since SC was not working on Vista. I finally configured the view to allow a server to connect. Now I want to customize the server. I am a bit confused about the various folders under create_server. The process seems very different than SC. What do all the various exe in this folder do?

Re: HELP!! Steps on customizing the GUI of a server?
See the sticky note "new gui - just something between SC and the new style one" by linoter.
Currently PCHelpware's GUI is designed more to work with the repeater, by putting in a session number in the standard PCH login screen.
If you instead want a GUI more like SC which lets you choose a tech or configuration that will then connect you directly, you'll need to use linoter's new GUI. It's not quite the same, unfortunately, and some folks are having problems with it if you have more than 9 entries because they can't get a scrollbar, but until the developers finish with UltraVNC version 1.0.4 and get back to PCHelpWare, them's the breaks.
Or, like linoter, you could conceivably contribute and make your own direct connect GUI if you don't like what's currently available and don't want to wait (I'd do so myself, but I'm no programmer).

Re: HELP!! Steps on customizing the GUI of a server?
One other thing. If you don't like the looks of the GUI that linoter came up with, it can be modified, though it's not a quick mod.
Using a button / graphics program, create your own background graphics window. Easier said than done, but while time consuming to make a nice looking one, it's not impossible either. Don't want all that work? Modify an existing one such as the base "background.bmp" file in the server_res directory of PCHelpWare.
Next, using Resource Hacker, you can go in and modify the layout of the list box and buttons (see other posts in this forum on how to use Resource Hacker). You can even add a scrollbar to the list box for when there's more entries than room to display them (just right click on the list box for a menu of options).
Finally, you'll have to play with positioning the buttons, list box and graphic so that they line up the way you want on your custom background file. Move them, create a server, start up the server gui, note changes that need to be made, repeat.
It takes some work to make things look good, but once done you should have a custom GUI that meets your needs.

Re: HELP!! Steps on customizing the GUI of a server?
Xeiran, thank you for your help, I was able to use basically the same UI I created with SC.
