LogMeIn like service/setup using UltraVNC?

Post by nograz »

Is there a service/setup for UltraVNC that would be like LogMeIn?

We currently use UltraVNC for our IT support tool, but I would like a more seamless approach. It can get rather tedious asking users their computer names, never mind the fact that it was someones bright idea to change our computer naming scheme and all the names have not be changed, so it is hit or miss currently with what scheme the computer name is using.

I have looked at SC and PCHelpWare, while booth seem like good products, I just seem them fitting our needs, especially since we have multiple techs supporting users and less work we can make a user do, the better.

What I am looking for is way to centrally view all VNC clients on our network and be able to launch tasks from there, kind of database driven with information on the PC, mainly who the owner of the PC is. When I say tasks, I would like the ability to have the VNC server connect to a VNC Viewer (that way we also don't have to worry about managing passwords).

I know there are some pay solutions out there like VNCScan, but I am not sure they fit the bill for what I would like to do. I am also possibly thinking about writing my own software, thinking web based that will do this, but I don't want to duplicate work or create more work if I can help it.

By work like LogMeIn do you mean with customer router configuration? If so [topic=9663]"Zero Configuration" PcHelpWare_viewer Setup[/topic] kind of works like LogMeIn. I wouldn't advise using the public repeater to run a business, but you could set up your own. You could set it up so each tech had his own server EXE that would be distributed to a customer or you could use a single EXE and have the client enter the ID for the appropriate tech.
