Getting started?

Post by xcastrox »

Ive been using various flavors of vnc for a few years, but just decided to see how this ms logon thing worked...I cant seem to find a very good step by step guide, could someone walk me through setting it up for 3 admins and 3 users? Im running windows xp sp1, let me know if theres anything else you need.

Thanks.

see [topic=1046][/topic] for some general info.
I'm just guessing what you have in mind with "setting it up for 3 admins and 3 users":
A WinXP machine, and you would like to allow 3 admins to access this machine via vnc.
Open the Admin properties page (you need to be an administrator to do that). Check "Require MS-Logon" and "New MS-Logon".
Click on the "Configure MS-Logon Groups" button.
Add the 3 admins to the list and grant them "Full Control".

Optimization: Create a group (either locally on that machine or in the domain) and make the 3 admins members of this group.
Instead of adding the admins add the group to the list.

With New MS-Logon it's not possible to grant access depending on the currently logged on user!
The idea is that you grant access to the machine. If required, you can combine this with the option "Query on incoming connection" which requires the user to accept or deny the incoming connection.
