Port Forwarding + Briteport 8120

Post by hockeymom22 »

I have Covad DSL service. They provided a Briteport 8120 modem/router. I have tha connected to a Linksys 16 port hub and a Linksys wireless access. I do have a Linksys 1-port BEFSR11 but it is not hooked up because the Briteport assigns the IP's as a router. I have one static IP and NAT. I tried to port forward to a laptop for VNC but no one can connect to me. It has been suggested to use the Briteport as a "bridge" but not sure I want to disconnect everything without knowing how to reconnect it again.

or do just one change at a time, writing down only what you change.

If you break it, put it back what you changed and its fixed.

Taking pictures is helpful, with lables for some people that are paranoid about how things actually connect, then there is no guessing.

If no one can connect to you and you set up the port forwarding, ensure no firewall software (xp or otherwise) is blocking the request.
