Rudi,

Ok, i have played with tabbed_vncviewer_127.exe and it has sorted out most of the issues. The only big one now is the tabs not being restored correctly when opening multiple saved sessions.

Note: I have updated my previous two bug lists.

I have also managed to get the viewer to freeze on me a couple of times when leaving multiple sessions connected to a pc that i then reboot BUT i cannot consistantly repeat it so i cannot comment on this until i have worked on it and managed to find out how to get it doing this consistantly.

If you have two sessions connected to a host which you then reboot i am only seeing one socket error, which then closes the tab but the second session/tab remain.

One question with regards to auto scaling. When the resolution of the PC you connect to is the same or larger than the resolution of the viewer you have scroll bars. If you move the vertical scroll bars to the bottom so you can see the remote start menu, why do you get a blank border at the bottom of the screen when you click full screen mode. It only does this now when auto scale is turned on.

Also, as kger posted you can double click a .vnc file and it opens the tabbed viewer but it doesn't open the session you double clicked. If you have some saved sessions it opens them as well but not the specified .vnc file.

It is looking good. I think you have managed to work out alot of the bugs. I would guess other people will find some but it is a good starting point.

Cheers,

Simon

.vnc loading need to be fix

Black border will stay like this for a while. This was one of the reasons
fullscreen was set to auto-scale :) For the most users auto-scale will do the job, it is only a little slower on lan, for all other connections, the network is the slowest part.

At least it is as stable as the previous version, after fixing the .vnc load
it will be posted on sf together with a src zip.
Let's hope some other also spend some time on bug hunting.

Thanks for the feedbacks and time spend on it.
I hope other use this thread as reference for bug reporting,
" does not work" usual result in a never solved bug

One thing I noticed with the old viewer and also the new one is that, if you use a weak, unstable, laggy connection, it sometimes completely freezes.
(in my case it's mostly the connection from the (viewer) laptop to the WLAN router that's causing problems, not the WAN connection itself)

So the connection is not closed and you still see the remote screen, but can't do anything.
When this happens, you can not normally close the viewer either but have to force kill the process.
Server is the newest version with mirror driver installed.
Both computers use XP Pro SP2 and all updates.

If you need any more details, feel free to ask :)

I posted to the other thread. Toolbar doesn't update with status, like the button that shows the keyboard/mouse/blanked screen doesn't change like it does with the "normal viewer".

Just from my few days of using the tabbed viewer, it seems much less stable. I like the auto-stretching to full maximized window, but it has crashed/froze on my many times. I guess it could be related to the DSM plugin and NT authentication. (the reason i can't use it with multiple connections now yet). Just a comment.

Tried the tabbed viewer for the first time and must that it looks very promising.

A couple of things came to my mind that would make it really useful.
The first, which is already mentioned but I want to support it as well, is a favorites menu (or alternatively an IE-style Favorites sidebar).
Coupled with this is the ability to reassign the Favorites folder to a user-specified path (perhaps on a network drive where administrators can share the connections - user-defined, in any case).
I'm also wondering if it's possible to move the options files to a more logical place than %temp% - such as %APPDATA%\UltraVNC for Windows 2000 and above. I have a feeling the current setup is the easiest from a compatibility perspective, but it would be slicker with a more "professional" place for those files.

The last thing might be a problem with my setup (but is my most important concern at this point), and should perhaps go to a help forum, but I wanted to bring it up here for confirmation if that is the case. Whenever I double-click a .vnc-file it now opens the tabbed viewer, but not as a tab, but as a new tabbed viewer. I have a feeling that's not what's intended, but I wanted to ask if it's a problem with my installation or a "feature" of UltraVNC. :)

I must say, though, that I'm very impresed with UltraVNC - tabbed viewer or not - and have replaced pcAnywhere on all our clients with it. Speaking of pcAnywhere - it has a nice "Quick Deploy" feature that installs the server on the designated computer, if not present. Could this be something for UltraVNC as well at some point in the future?

Thank you for a very good product,

/Peter

Hi Peter!

Such a feature is available in VNCScan (a management interface), of more basically with FastPush.

Best Regards!

Looks interesting, thanks. For me, though, the main advantage of UltraVNC is it's price and this kind of feature isn't something I'm prepared to invest in to get - things are working very well as they are, anyhow. :)

FashPush is free. . .or at least it was. . .

I wish 1.2 would work for me with tabs and the encryption plugin. . .it would be nice.

SmartCode VNC Manager includes user friendly and mean-time highly configurable VNC Deployment wizard, which can remotely install Real/Ultra/TightVNC using in-house developed custom MSI packages.

My problems with the tabbed viewer(1.29) using internal Dell GX280 video for primary display and old Matrox PCI card for secondary:

- Full screen mode is also 'Always on Top'. This should be a separate option.

- Full screen on second monitor (without taskbar) has the remote desktop-esque autohiding bar on the primary monitor (annoying when you also have a different VNC session on the primary monitor).

- Full screen on second monitor (without taskbar) causes the taskbar on primary monitor to disapear.

- Starting a Linux VNC session with geometry 2560x1024 will not fullscreen across both 1280x1024 monitors.

I really appreciate any work to resolve these issues!

i'm using tabbed viewer 1.29. but i realized that it is not compatible with ultravnc server 1.02?

is it the only way to connect to ultravnc server 1.02 is to use vnc viewer 1.02 standalone?

Well, you can use the internal Java Viewer too...

Hi, I would like to report some command line options issues...

1. If you start the session from the command prompt, for example like this:

Code: Select all

tabbed_vncviewer.exe 192.168.1.1
and then try to connect to another computer like this:

Code: Select all

tabbed_vncviewer.exe 192.168.1.2
instead of opening it in new tab in the current viewer, it opens new one.
What's the point then of having multitabbed viewer? :)

2. Try to connect the same way described above and then try to close the tab (not the whole viewer)... It closes and imediately after this reopens again. Thats quite iritating! :|
And the same thing happens even if the connection can't be made.
The viewer gives the message "Failed to connect to server" and when the OK button is pressed, it tries to connect again, and again and again...
Thats even MORE iritating! :|

Edit: I forgot to mention that I've tested this with the tabbed_viewer.exe that comes with the UltraVNC-1.0.2-bin.zip and also downloaded it from
http://sc.uvnc.com/V2/tabbed_viewer/tab ... viewer.exe
