Corrupted visuals in SSVNC viewer

Post by LRN »

When connecting SSVNC 1.0.29-2+b2 viewer (Debian x86_64) to UltraVNC 1.2.1.0 server (Windows 7 x86_64), i get display corruption, usually around mouse cursor (but sometimes in other parts of the screen).
Corruption looks like small blocks of black or white pixels or thin-ish lines of black pixels.
Corruption becomes less prevalent with the increase of the "Compression" option in SSVNC, although i'm not sure how it corresponds to UltraVNC options.
Does no happen when UltraVNC viewer is used.
Did not happen in 1.2.0.6 (haven't tried 1.2.0.9, went straight to 1.2.1.0).

I have video (400KB), if you want it.

Click the connections options - uncheck the "scale server to window"

That helped me with the corruption.

Is there a way to turn the scaling to window off?

There's no "connections options" to click in SSVNC viewer. It does have a viewer options window though, available by pressing F8.
Nevertheless, i didn't have anything to lose by trying to follow your advice, however unlikely it seemed at the time.
So i did F8->Scale viewer->auto
That screwed up the display in a very expected way (desktop aspect ratio did not match the laptop aspect ratio), but there was no obvious corruption around mouse cursor.
Then i did F8->Scale viewer->1.0
And it went back to the way it looked before - but this time there was no corruption.

So yeah, this kind of works. I wonder why.
