UltraVNC repeater Warning after 1.2.1.0 install?

Post by jksmurf »

I have the UltraVNC server running as an application and the Repeater to start at Windows Login.

When windows starts I now get this error message:

"The defined web port is already in use. Changed to http://localhost:81 Verify settings! Default user and password is admin"

Image

My repeater settings are pretty simple 5901 and 5900.

Could anyone please tell me I would get that error after many years of UltraVNC use; and how would I fix it?

Thanks

see doc, we don't have a lot of docs... but this error is explained :)
http://www.uvnc.eu/download/1210/Repeater.pdf

On startup of the repeater.exe, he check if the webgui port ( default 80) is already in use or not.
If in use, it give this warning so you know you need to connect to htp://localhost:81 instead of 80.

Cause
*You are running some web server on port 80
*You are already running a repeater.

Solution:
*Set another webgui port, connecting using port 81
* You can want to run multiple repeaters on a single PC use different ports.
( 5901/5500/80 default) ( 5902/5501/8080)

Hi Rudi

Thanks for that, the explanation is a bit clearer and I managed into login into the WebGui to check the Repeater settings.
I had delete my old repeater settings files for that to work.

What I was hoping that in settings, when you saved that you wanted to use Port 81, it would then save that and no longer give you the startup warning. But what it seems to do is check for Port 80 and just give you the warning anyway? Is there any way of just saying OK I know I have another Program using Port 80, UVNC must use Port 81, disable the warning error message?

It is disabling the warning message that is my end goal. Thanks

Just tested. The repeater test the saved http port.
If you save 8080, he test 8080

If you get the port 80 is in use warning, your setting is still set to 80.
If the repeater is installed in a secure location, like program files, he can not save his settings because he require UAC access.
Solutions
1) Temp start the repeater.exe with "run as admin" to elevate his permissions so he can proper save the settings file.
2) Temp copy repeater.exe to desktop, make changes and copy settings file to the original folder.

Hi Rudi

Thanks for replying so quickly.
Sorry if I am doing something wrong here, but I tried both of those methods and still get the warning message. ???

Hi Rudi,

Sorry, but I am still troubled by this please?
Your suggestions do not work for me. How can I help you troubleshoot it?

[EDIT]OK, I unchecked "use port 80 and 443 for additional incoming connections" in Skype to free up Port 80. It's under Advanced settings, connections. It's clearly just a workaround, but it works.

Port 80.

OK I did a netstat -aon | more
0.0.0.0.:80 has a PID of 6948
Process Explorer/TRask manager "Details" lists PID 6948 as repeater.exe

You changed the port to 81 and saved the settings.
And now it's back to 80, something say me that it was never saved and because the repaater start with 80 you get the warning
that the repeater auto move the port to a free port 81.

Again... try to save the settings and check if the date of the config file realy changed.

Hi Rudi,

Sorry, I looked and looked again at the repeater helpfile above http://www.uvnc.eu/download/1210/Repeater.pdf but I cannot see HOW and WHERE you MANUALLY set the Port. I thought this was just set automatically by the repeater, defaulting to Port 80; and if 80 was in use (e.g. by Skype) it goes to the next one automatically (81, but with an error message).

Can you please advise exactly how I "Set another webgui port" please? Is there a settings file? (I cannot see it in the repeater or any GUI pages for the UVNC Server or Viewer).

Thanks and apologies if I have missed something simple here. Is http://localhost:80 (Default user and password = admin) supposed to allow you to both amend and save these settings? If yes, where do I find the associated "config file" that you note I should check if it has changed? Same directory as the repeater.exe?

Cheers

OK I tried http://localhost:80 using admin adminadmi2 (wasn't admin admin) and found teh settings page where I could specify web user port. I saved these and then checked the directory. Two files were saved, comment.txt with a list

[comment]
0=0:
1=0:
.
.
1999=00:

and settings.txt which looked like it should not be opened by a txt editor. So I think I have it OK now, thanks!

Q: Why aren't these settings you just set in the repeater Options Settings, rather than a separate page?
